One Truck and a Couple of Rented Sheds
Wade Browning, writing this myself. 2008 is when it began, and that detail is plain fact, not a marketing line. Enough households across Kerr County had passed through my hands while I worked for other crews that I knew which kind of outfit I refused to become, the sort that named a price and then padded the bill. So a lone box truck, a pair of metal sheds leased behind the shop on Sidney Baker, and a license under my own name was the whole of it. Rhonda, my wife, balanced the books on our kitchen table through that opening year. Eighteen years gone by, and the two of us still hold this thing free and clear, a full fleet parked in the yard now.
Why We Built Our Own Cooled Storage
July of that first year drove a lesson home in a hurry. Heat out in this country shoves a closed metal shed past 110 by afternoon, warping a dining table and cooking a leather sofa right where they sit. Leaving anybody’s belongings to that was off the table, so we poured climate-controlled units of our own right in Kerrville. The result is one company that both moves you and keeps your things cooled until you want them. Rhonda steers operations and the front office, the one reserving the Comanche Trace gate slot and bridging two closings with a unit. The interstate runs that cross the state line are mostly mine to drive. Each mover collects our W-2, puts on our shirt, and passes a background screen ahead of a first shift. None of them is a stopgap grabbed off some day-labor corner.
The Number Stays Where We Put It
Booking us turns out pleasantly dull, and that is the entire aim. We size up precisely what is heading out, room by room for a packed ranch house or from snapshots for the lighter ones, and you walk off with a single locked, binding figure. Whatever you approved is whatever the invoice reads. The clock does not run while a rig idles at a shuttered low crossing, and a heavy gun safe never gets relabeled oversized to fatten the charge. Before a thing budges, it is padded and noted, and the same crew that fills the truck is the one emptying it, your drop ten minutes down SH-27 or two states up the interstate. The entire job rests on a full $1M of cargo coverage. Break something and we square it, by mending, by replacing, by paying out, a term spelled out in the contract you put your name to rather than slapped across a billboard.
We Have Driven These Hill Country Roads on Their Worst Days
Worlds separate somebody who once skimmed a map from a crew that practically lives behind the wheel on these Hill Country roads. We can explain why one fierce cloudburst lifts the Guadalupe and drowns a low crossing inside an hour, why a freak ice storm slams I-10 shut, and why the heat from late spring through September jams every gated and riverside community’s calendar as the second-home crowd churns past. So our routes dodge the floods and the closures, our busy weeks carry padding, and an arrival we cannot guarantee never gets promised. Kerrville and the whole of Kerr County belong to us, Ingram, Center Point, Comfort, Fredericksburg, Bandera right alongside. Phone (888) 711-4778 and you will reach Wade or Rhonda, one of whom has hauled a sofa up a riverbank in dead August heat personally.
